In Loving Memory of
Michael VanBibber
The VanBibber Service Legacy was established in honor of Michael VanBibber who lost his battle with glioblastoma brain cancer in 2020.
The name of the organization came from special meaning for the family, as Mike and his wife Michelle met in Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity at Virginia Tech. Mike was the chairperson with Ronald McDonald house and Michelle chaired Special Olympics. Both were active in various other volunteer opportunities in Blacksburg and at Virginia Tech. Mike and Michelle were both diehard Hokies and continued to live the Virginia Tech motto - That I May Serve.
During their marriage, Mike and Michelle were active organizing events and fundraisers for the PTA and schools their children attended. Mike volunteered as a soccer, baseball and basketball coach for years. Both Mike and Michelle were very involved with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. They instilled a desire to serve into their children and were very excited to see both Tyler and Helina active in their college chapters of Alpha Phi Omega at Western Carolina and Case Western Reserve Universities.
When thinking of names for a charity in Mike's, the theme of service continued to resonate with the family. They all knew that service was Mike's legacy.
The VanBibber's will continue Mike's legacy in raising money for service dogs for those with brain injuries or brain cancer. Mike was so excited to get his own dog and was hopeful he could overcome his bodies limitations with the aid of his service dog.
The family also realized the need for help for caregivers of glioblastoma patients as their disease advances. We will be providing assistance for hiring in home health care, helping elevate the stresses and financial struggles that come from this horrible disease.
Lastly the funds raised will also be used to help fund advances and cutting edge research for glioblastoma brain cancer. Little advances have been made over the past 30 years.
We hope you will join our mission in support of Mike's Legacy of serving others.
